Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Having a grand opening or ribbon cutting?
Let the Chamber assist you with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and gain exposure for your business!
The Chamber will provide the following for your Ribbon Cutting Event:
• Coordinate the date and time
• Notify the Board of Directors, Staff and Members
• Post the Ribbon Cutting Event on the Chamber website
• Submit press release to local newspapers
• Send a flyer or invitation in the weekly email blast
• Take photos at the event to post on the website and/or online newsletter
• Provide ceremonial scissors and ribbon
The Host's Responsibility:
• Provide a sign or banner with the company name
• Invite non-Chamber Member guests and elected officials
• Arrange for guest speaker if applicable
• Orchestrate raffles or giveaways (optional)
• Provide music or entertainment (optional)
• Refreshments (optional)
* Ribbon Cuttings are held on Thursdays, from 4:30pm to 6pm.
The Ribbon Cutting takes place at 5:30pm.
They must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.

Choose a coordinator and/or committee
Decide who will do what and assign specific responsibilities to each member of the committee.
Establish an event budget
Meet with accounting department to determine budget.
Set date and time
Coordinate event well in advance with key people whose attendance is important.
Schedule later in the day for best response. Do not plan an event too close to another important event or holiday.
Plan the agenda
Decide who will be the event mc to introduce speakers and special guests and determine who will be invited to speak. Coordinate speakers so everything is covered and not repeated. Acknowledge everyone who helped with the event. Have a microphone and podium available.
Compile invitation list
• Company officials • Elected officials • Community leaders
• Representatives from local businesses and community organizations
• The Press • Company employees • Key clients • Business prospects
Hire a rental company
Arrange rentals such as tents and chairs.
Hire a caterer
Refreshments can be simple or elaborate.
Hire or appoint a photographer
Plan photo shots with company owner, elected officials, community leaders, Chamber representatives and attendees.
Publicity
Prepare press release and have press packets available. Send a press invitation to the media and follow up with a phone call. Make sure you are included in the Chamber of Commerce weekly event email blast.
Send invitations
Mail at least two to three weeks before the event and include a map if applicable.
Weather
Have a contingency plan for inclement weather.
Permits
Determine if any permits are required such as parking, liquor license, etc.
